Using the drawing tool: photo drawings, template drawings, and presets

How to use the updated drawing tool in Clinicminds records, including the highlighter, extra colours, combined drawings screen, and presets for template drawings.

Written by Richard

The drawing tool in records has been updated. It works faster and more accurately on computers and tablets, and it includes new tools and colors. This article explains what changed and how to use the new features.

Two terms used throughout this article: a template is the background image you draw on, for example, a face diagram. A preset is a saved drawing on top of a template that you can reuse.

What's new in the drawing tool

The drawing tool has been rebuilt for better performance on all devices, including tablets and touchscreens. You'll notice smoother lines and a more responsive canvas.

New in this version:

  • A highlighter tool, next to the existing pen. Use it to mark larger areas without covering the template or photo underneath.

  • More colors to choose from, giving you extra flexibility when documenting treatments or marking areas of interest.

  • A text tool to add short notes directly on the drawing. You can choose whether text is printed on the treatment summary, via records settings > records > record defaults.

You'll find all tools in the toolbar at the bottom of the drawing screen: color selection, pen, highlighter, and text. Use undo, redo, and clear to correct or restart your drawing.

Photo drawings and template drawings in one screen

Photo drawings and template drawings are now shown together in one Drawings screen. You no longer need to check two places to see everything you drew during a consultation or treatment. Open the Drawings screen in the record to view all drawings for that visit.

Using presets for template drawings

If you make the same drawing several times a day, for example a standard injection pattern, you can save it as a preset. Next time, you apply the preset with one tap instead of drawing it again.

How to create a preset

  1. Open a template drawing in the record.

  2. Make the drawing you want to reuse.

  3. Tap Presets in the drawing screen.

  4. Tap + Add new and give your preset a clear name, for example "BTX Frown".

How to apply a preset

  1. Open the template drawing.

  2. Tap Presets.

  3. Select the preset you want to use. The saved drawing is placed on the template, and you can still adjust it before saving the record.

Personal and clinic-wide presets

Every practitioner can create presets for their own workflow. These are only visible to you.

Users with the appropriate permissions (edit record settings) can also create presets for the whole clinic, so the entire team works with the same standard drawings.

To edit or delete a preset, tap the ... menu next to the preset name.
